The 2010 Ontario Municipal Elections take place on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Other key dates are:

Nomination and Campaign Period Begins: January 1, 2010
Nomination Day (Last Day to be Nominated): September 10, 2010
Final Day for Withdrawal of Candidacy: September 10, 2010
Voting Day: October 25, 2010
Council Term Begins: December 1, 2010
Campaign Period Ends: December 31, 2010
Financial Filing Deadline: March 25, 2011

Health and medical information in Ontario

Consumer Health Information Service (CHIS) at the Toronto Public Library provides access to a wealth of health and medical information for Ontarians. Located on the 3rd. floor of the Toronto Reference Library, CHIS is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion. The website provides details of walk-in and telephone services and a list of resources. Another excellent source, this time from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care is the Medical Services Directory. Enter your postal code to bring up a list of Walk-in clinics, Health Care Providers, Emergency Rooms etc. in your area.

e-Laws official status

There has been a recent change regarding the Government of Ontario's e-Laws. As of Nov 30, 2008, laws printed from the e-Laws website are now considered the official version and can be used in court. See the e-Laws website "What is considered to be an official copy of a source law or consolidated law?" for more information. However, for federal legislation, the Consolidated acts and regulations on the Department of Justice website still do not have official sanction. As indicated on the website, they are "provided to the public for convenience and readability only".

New Ontario portal for legal information

From the Government of Ontario, a new portal for legal information. Contains a wealth of information on subjects such as finding a lawyer, tickets and fines, lawsuits, family law, human rights, wills and estates. This access to the legal system is in line with the existing access to Services through Service Ontario and to employment and training through Employment Ontario
In addition, there is toll-free telephone access to the same information in 173 languages at 1-866-252-0104.

Infrastructure funding for municipalities

All municipalities in Ontario will benefit from infrastructure funding under the Investing In Ontario Act. The Ontario government is investing an additional $1.1 billion in capital grants to municipalities. Click here to see how much Oakville will be receiving
